Creeks & Peaks Backpacking Trips
This Backpacking trip gives you the power to create your own once-in-a-lifetime opportunity. With guides who have grown up exploring these mountains we can take you to the most remote peaks, iconic waterfalls, and scenic high mountain vistas untouched by tourism. We want this to be a life-long memory, Creeks and Peaks offers that memory. Below is one trip example of our three favorite summer backpacking trips. In addition to the Mt. Cammerer trip we also offer multiple options closer to Asheville, NC with varying degrees of difficulty and scenery to include off-trail creek hiking. The off -trail hiking is extremely difficult and the hardest trip we offer. That particular off-trail experience requires past hiking with Asheville Trekking Company and guides consent that you're physically able to complete this expedition.

Public Backpacking Clinics
These "clinics" are open to all and require a trip minimum of 2 hikers for us to proceed with the trip. If the minimum isn't met 3 weeks before the trip we will contact you and explore all the backpacking options until we find one that fits your travel needs as well as terrain, scenery, difficulty, and distance. Keep in mind these public trips have a set itinerary to include the days mileage and difficulty. Before you sign up for these trips make sure you read EVERYTHING! We offer public clinics ranging from extremely difficult to intro to backpacking. If you "slip through the cracks" and end up on a trip you shouldn't be on, well its going to be extremely difficult! While we love to challenge ourselves and others, that particular experience can be avoided and should be avoided at all costs. Read the trip details, make sure its for you, if you're still curious give us a call. We love to talk about our work and want to make sure you enjoy the experience as much as we do!

Shining Rock Summit
Shining Rock wilderness is our guide's favorite day hike. Offering multiple summits over 6,000’ with panoramic views and a quartzite capped summit that can be seen for miles. Shining Rock Summit is the best day hike in Western North Carolina. We will start out our morning with a rendezvous in Asheville or at the trailhead; whatever is more convenient based on your location. We start our hike with a short ascent to Black Balsam Mountain at 6,214’ in elevation with 360° views. From there we will hike to Tennent Mountain at 6,065’ in elevation with mountain vistas ranging as far away as 60+ miles. Tennent Mountain also offers an interesting perspective on Black Balsam, Shining Rock Wilderness and Looking Glass rock. From Tennent Mountain it’s a short hike to our picnic location, Ivestor Gap. After lunch we will continue on to Shining Rock for exploration and a well deserved rest. This will take us to the most remote and scenic mountain top you may ever get to experience. Not to mention the geological rarity that is Shining Rock. We will spend ample time here relaxing, refueling and most importantly taking in the amazing scenery. Following up our break on Shining Rock we will be taking another trail back to the trailhead.
